As our seasons shift into Fall and Winter...
The transition to Fall Weather is right around the corner. Hints of cooler evenings are giving us glimpses of what is to come as October and November provide cooler weather, turning colors of leaves first in the mountain canyons (red maples burst into vibrant colors), and then down to the magnificent cottonwoods by the river turning brilliant yellow in the sunny Autumn days. We anticipate the arrival of the Sandhill Cranes and lots of waterfowl at Whitewater Draw, and a few of our winter hawks and sparrows have also arrived now at the beginning of October. The seasons roll along and the tide of bird migrations continues adding adventure to each week.
Our location on the San Pedro River provides an ideal habitat for all of our Summer and Migratory birds, and the nearby Huachuca Mountain canyons add another habitat dimension for even more exciting species A day of wandering through the grasslands, canyons, and wetlands can yield over 130 species easily. Keep your binoculars and bird ID tools handy, and add to your lists of birds in a quickly increasing list. A guest reported 44 new life birds in one morning at the Casa and along the river.
Special Events in the Fall:
October has several special events in the area with the Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb in mid October, to the Bisbee Halloween Celebration to cap off the month.
In November we will host a Birding Class by Kathe Anderson, plus our Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.
The Christmas Holidays offer more opportunities to join us at the Casa for two great dinners: Christmas Dinner featuring Roast Prime Rib, and New Years Eve Dinner at the Casa as well. Join us as we gather around the winter hearth to celebrate the New Year.
